Fusing the function driven brief of a beachside family home with traditional charm, the project adopts qualities of a Hampton style home with Australian sensibilities, while responding to both the natural and built environment. Distinctly Aussie with its galvanised roof and embrace of indoor/outdoor living, the C-shaped dwelling has two distinct building zones (front & back), connected by the sweeping curve of a glazed gallery, enclosing a central garden and a pool area that provides views and north facing, natural light to virtually every room.
The allure of the sprawling layout and its ancillary outdoor spaces is the way each room is beautifully balanced with framed views, focal points & design elements. Much like a book telling a story, as each chapter or space unfolds it beckons you to explore the next chapter or space as you meander from room to room. With delightful design elements like coffered ceilings, built-in nooks, terraces, balconies, pergolas and roof decks, the end result is a house that exudes a level of quality detailing and homeyness that pays homage to its inspirational roots without being cliché or contrived.
