Nestled in the native bushland and foothills of Melbourne’s Dandenong Ranges, this modern farmhouse embraces an uncomplicated footprint & traditional shape with a deep wrap around verandah on three sides of a simple gable end volume. Mixing traditional farmhouse details like board & batten cladding with rustic elements like oversized recycled timber verandah posts and modern elements like generous floor to ceiling windows affording views to the lush natural surrounds, the dwelling is spirited in its ambitions to sit quietly within this semi-rural setting.
Internally the layout of the dwelling is centred around a generous open kitchen & centrally located stair as the main visual focal point. While open plan in its overall organisation of living spaces, each space has a distinct identity through the use of a ceiling details, custom lighting, framed views, built-in design features and varying natural materials. Combining a soft palette of whites, creams and beiges with natural tactile materials like timber, travertine & stone along with bronze, brass & gun metal to reference the dwelling’s inspirational roots of buildings originally intended for working the land.
Carried out in collaboration with Group Architects, the overall aesthetic of this elegant farmhouse echo’s its beautiful bushland setting while presenting a clean fresh backdrop for modern family life.
