Making clever use of an under-utlised corner of the site was the key to the successful design of a Guest House for an exising mid-century dwelling. The small extension encompassing a living/sleeping zone & ensuite visually extends well beyond its compact footprint with a glazed wall at one end of the living area spilling out to a deck overlooking the pool, and a glazed wall at the other end of the ensuite overlooking a private Zen Garden.
Efficient space planning with a contnuous wall of built-in bench & storage cupboards along the boundary allows for generous circulation up the middle. Double pocket ensuite doors open to a floatng central vanity, which creates a focal point, further reinforces symmetry and creates a sense of spaciousness by mirroring the garden reflection at the opposite end of the room.
Combining garden views with a considered palette of Blackbutt timber, polished concrete & green terrazzo, the overall feel is the warm, groovy aesthetic of a mid- century pool cabana where boring finishes like plain plasterboard are completely banished.
